Maldivian Airlines will launch direct flights to four cities in China, including Beijing, starting January 2025, expanding its global network with a new wide-body aircraft.
Maldivian Airlines is set to expand its international network by introducing a wide-body aircraft and commencing direct flights to four major cities in the People’s Republic of China, including Beijing, starting in January 2025. This announcement was made by Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, during a special ceremony marking the launch of the new route.
Minister Ameen expressed his gratitude to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for his role in fulfilling the commitment to enhance the national airline’s capacity. The new service reflects the government’s efforts to strengthen international connectivity and promote the Maldives as a global travel destination.
The wide-body aircraft, with a seating capacity of up to 264 passengers, will allow Maldivian Airlines to reach more distant destinations and offer increased comfort for passengers. The aircraft will provide direct flights to China, reducing travel time and improving accessibility for both leisure and business travelers.
Currently, Maldivian Airlines operates a diverse fleet consisting of 13 aircraft, which includes one Airbus A320, four ATR aircraft, and eight Dash aircraft. The Airbus A320 is the only aircraft in the fleet used for international flights, and its use will be pivotal in expanding the airline’s reach to new markets.
In addition to its international routes, Maldivian Airlines services 16 domestic destinations, supporting the growing demand for travel within the Maldives. The airline also flies to key regional destinations in India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, strengthening its position as a leading carrier in the Indian Ocean region.
