Malaysia, China, and India Join Forces to Fuel Unprecedented Tourism Growth with Extended Visa-Free Policy for Travelers

Malaysia, China, and India collaborate to boost tourism with an extended visa-free policy, unlocking new opportunities for travelers and fostering unparalleled growth.

In its inaugural year of offering a 30-day visa-free policy, Malaysia welcomed over four million visitors from China and more than a million from India. From December 2023, when the policy was first introduced, until December 2024, 4.1 million Chinese nationals arrived in the country, according to reports from The Star.

In addition to the influx of Chinese tourists, India also saw a strong presence, with 1.4 million Indian visitors making their way to Malaysia during the same period. This surge in tourism from both nations highlights the growing appeal of Malaysia as a key travel destination.

Malaysia and Thailand were the only Southeast Asian nations to implement this visa-free initiative for Chinese and Indian tourists, offering greater access to travelers from these two large markets.

Buoyed by the success of the policy, Malaysia has decided to extend the visa exemptions for Chinese and Indian nationals until 2026, further solidifying its position as a prime destination for tourists from these countries.
